Version of GRACoL 5.0 Expands Technical
Information for Latin American Printing
Market
Translated
version a joint effort of IDEAlliance
and Graphic Type Mexico
MIAMI,
FL., (February 5, 2002) - IDEAlliance
- formerly the Graphic Communications
Association - has announced an agreement
with Graphic Type Mexico to publish
a Spanish-language version of GRACoL
5.0 (General Requirements for Applications
in Commercial offset Lithography). The
announcement was made during a press
conference held at the Graphics of the
Americas Exhibition in Miami, Florida
on February 1, 2002.
The
Spanish-language version of GRACoL will
also be announced at the February 21,
2002 Digital Congress meeting for Printing
and Publishing Executives in Mexico
City. This version of GRACoL 5.0 will
eventually be distributed throughout
the Latin American audience, with a
Portuguese version scheduled to follow.
"GRACoL
has developed into a standard of reference
for printing guidelines for offset printing
in North America and throughout the
world," said David Hultin, Director,
Print Initiatives for IDEAlliance. "This
Latin American version joins other translated
versions for Spain, Denmark, and Taiwan,
along with an English version for India."
Graphic
Type Mexico has been involved in Spanish
language technical publishing and training
in Latin America since 1993. The organization
works closely with the Graphic Arts
Technical Foundation (GATF) in Sewickley,
PA, the National Association of Printing
Leadership (NAPL) in Paramus, NJ, as
well as Rochester Institute of Technology
(RIT) to create technical training opportunities
in Latin America.
Joseph
Staszak, President of Graphic Type Mexico,
explained that the release of a Spanish-language
GRACoL fills an important need in the
Latin American printing market. "Latin
American printing capacity is expanding
quickly, and there is an obvious need
for a reliable, cost effective training
publication for commercial printers.
GRACoL meets those needs, so we are
thrilled to translate it into Spanish
and Portuguese for our Latin American
audiences."
"The
Latin American version of GRACoL 5.0
being developed by Graphic Type Mexico
simply represents the growing global
awareness of the value of GRACoL," Hultin
added. "It is a document that owes its
existence to the experience of the committee
that rewrites it each year."
