TechBooks' CTO to Present "XML and Publishing Workflow, Today and Tomorrow"

XML Is Standard for Publishing Future; Digital Workflow is Key to Prosperity

FAIRFAX, VA, March 4- XML is quickly becoming the standard for publishing because it improves the efficiency of workflows, and reduces costs and delivery time. TechBooks' Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Gurvinder Batra will discuss the merits of XML during a presentation at Open Publish 2002 in Seattle, WA. Batra will make his presentation, entitled " XML and Publishing Workflow Today and Tomorrow," during the panel, "Technology: Service Bureau, State of the Art" at 4 p.m. on March 13.

Open Publish 2002 is presented by IDEAlliance, a not-for-profit, membership association for the publishing and content industry, based in Alexandria, VA. The forum will address goals across all stages of the publishing and digital print process from design to creation to plate to print to web to e-book to wireless. The event aims to bring together the world's most respected authorities on industry standards, PDF, workflow, publishing markup languages, print on-demand, color management, graphic design, and other best practices for the publishing process.

A sought after speaker and commentator on publishing technology, Batra says that almost half of all TechBooks' customers are using an XML process to generate new revenue channels and reduce publishing costs.

XML processes speed production and improve accuracy, says Batra, who notes that savings of 25 percent on the cost of cross-media publishing can be realized, as well as speeds that are 20 percent faster than traditional publishing methods.

Using layman's terms and drawing upon case studies, Gurvinder will detail the process TechBooks' customers are using today to enhance their publishing capabilities.

Batra, who frequently speaks at trade industry events, is also a key presenter at TechBooks' private business event series, called TechTalks, tailored for groups of publishers in US major cities.

Batra spearheaded the creation of XMLpublish (tm), the industry's first "front-end" XML (eXtensible Markup Language) workflow process that ensures the simultaneous production of high quality content for a full range of publishing formats, both print and Internet. He also manages the operations of TechBooks off shore production in New Delhi, where more than 2000 programmers enable fast turn around on high volume US publishing projects.

Prior to joining TechBooks, Batra started his own company in India, a desktop publishing firm called Calligraphics. Earlier in his career he worked for D.C.M. Data Products, a well-known computer manufacturing company with headquarters in New Delhi. The Indian native, earned an electronics and communications engineering degree from Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi in 1987.
