Seybold San Francisco Adds New Conferences Reflecting Industry Direction

FOSTER CITY, CA 7/2/02 - Seybold Seminars, a division of Key3Media Group, Inc. (NYSE:KME), announced it will offer four new educational conferences at Seybold San Francisco 2002. The conference and exhibition convenes September 9-12, 2002 at the Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA.

"We've seen a profound change in the graphics and publishing marketplace the past few years," said Gene Gable, president of Seybold Seminars and Publications. "The emphasis has shifted away from desk-top tools and squarely on to workgroup products, content management systems, rights management, customized publishing and other more complex issues. Our program this year will help creative, technical, marketing and service professionals address the benefits and challenges that are inherent in today's all-digital, all-networked production workflows."

The new conferences are:

  • Enterprise Publishing Conference: September 9-11. This conference concentrates on the business needs that drive, and the technologies that enable all organizations to communicate more effectively. Everyone from content contributors to IT who are involved in the publishing process will be able to address their organization's needs and requirements and bring workable solutions back to their business.
  • Gilbane Conference on Content Management: September 11-12. This conference is the first of its kind and is focused on three areas of content management: integration, organization, and communication. Three tracks will be available to help managers of content management systems, corporate content strategies, and IT infrastructure strategies all understand what content management technologies can do and how to evaluate the hundreds of new products and technologies available for managing and integrating enterprise content.
  • IDEAlliance Conference on XML Publishing: September 9-10. XML for Publishers features leading publishers and tool providers that focus on how XML and related standards are changing the landscape of publishing. The conference will help developers discern and employ emerging technology standards as well as evaluate what new business models can be enabled by XML and what role XML can play in automating the publishing supply chain.
  • Seybold PDF Conference: September 10-12. The Seybold PDF Conference addresses the entire range of PDF applications, technology developments, and best practices. The conference will feature a broad range of developers, publishers, printers, designers, and IT experts to share how smartly deploying PDF can save organizations money. Companies increasingly benefit from the power of PDF, enabling them to efficiently gather and exchange information. Included in the conference is the PDF Summit, which will feature the anticipated PDF Shootout product and comparison results from the first comprehensive PDF survey which will be shared and debated.

"Content management is at the heart of the modern enterprise as far as delivering information to the work flow but it is an incredibly complex problem," said Craig Cline vice president of content for Seybold Seminars. "Seybold is helping to shed light on the right tools and strategies publishers should select to navigate their way to content management solutions and other such technologies while facilitating a positive environment for education, discussion and the birth of innovation with its new set of conferences."

Hot Technology Days: September 9-12. These are single-day seminars dedicated to the latest key issues and technologies in publishing that will benefit not only newcomers, but also veterans of the industry. A particular session of note will be the Digital Rights Management seminar, on September 10, which will talk about the newest attempts to legislate how equipment vendors will be responsible for content management standards.
