WAM!NET
Announces New Services Allowing Use
of WAM!NET Connections For Enterprise
Data Communications
SAN
FRANCISCO, CA 9/13/02 - WAM!NET
Inc., a global provider of shared services
for content management and distribution,
announces the expansion of its Enterprise
Network Services to include Private
IP Tunnel and Port Forwarding services
today at Seybold San Francisco 2002
(Moscone Center, September 9 - 12).
WAM!NET's
suite of Enterprise Network Services
now includes Private IP Tunnels, Port
Forwarding and Internet Access. The
Private IP Tunnel is a converged service
that allows users of the WAM!NET Direct!
service to take advantage of interactive
bi-directional communications for all
IP traffic over a private tunnel between
their WAM!NET Purple Box devices. Geographically-dispersed
systems or applications can interact
with each other through the Private
IP Tunnel running over their secure,
dedicated WAM!NET network connection.
Dynamic bandwidth allocation can be
applied to converged services, to ensure
performance during busy periods.
Port
Forwarding allows both Direct! and Direct!
IP users to send unidirectional traffic
from one Purple Box device to another,
and supports a number of commonly used
protocols such as HTTP and AFP. Because
it supports Direct! IP, Port Forwarding
makes it easy to provide secure communications
with internal systems for external partners
at a low monthly fee.
WAM!NET's
Internet Access, released last year,
allows WAM!NET Direct! Service users
to utilize the circuit connecting them
to the WAM!NET network for Internet
connectivity. Customers receive basic
Internet services, such as Web browsing,
Internet Relay Chat (IRC), File Transfer
Protocol (FTP), E-Mail, USENET and others.
"Through
our Enterprise Network Services, our
customers can off-load bandwidth-intensive
traffic from their network to ours,"
Cindy Bergevin, executive director of
marketing, WAM!NET, comments. "Converged
services like WAM!NET Direct! with a
Private IP Tunnel, Port Forwarding or
Internet Access provide our customers
significant cost savings through shared
bandwidth over a single circuit from
one provider. And because they utilize
the connections to our private network,
users enjoy the same security and support
they've come to expect from our managed
data distribution services."
Among
the WAM!NET customers already using
the services is Rainier Color, a Seattle-based
provider of printing and color separation
services for ad agencies and corporate
clients such as Microsoft and Boeing.
Rainier, a long-time WAM!NET Direct!
service user, recently opened a sales
office in San Francisco, and needed
connectivity between offices. The company
uses the Private IP Tunnel service to
drive a Kodak Approval proofing device
located in the San Francisco office
remotely from Seattle, as if it were
a networked printer.
"We started by looking at telecommunications
providers, but realized we could get
a turnkey service with more reliable,
secure connectivity and better service
guarantees at a lower cost with WAM!NET,"
said John Castaldi, CEO, Rainier Color.
"We save as many as 36 hours of turnaround
time for a complete job with three rounds
of proofs, allowing our sales team in
San Francisco to respond to customers
as if they had their own in-house production
facility," added Castaldi.
