Ektron
Works with Microsoft To Offer Enhanced
HTML and XML Authoring Capabilities
for Business Users in Content Management
Server 2002
Ektron
supports integration of eWebEditPro
and eWebEditPro+XML in Microsoft’s leading
content management solution
October
7, 2002, Amherst, NH, USA -- Ektron,
Inc., which offers developer-friendly
Web content authoring technologies for
business end users, today announced
a formal technology relationship with
Microsoft Corp., whereby Ektron supports
integration of Ektron eWebEditPro and
eWebEditPro+XML in Microsoft Content
Management Server 2002. Ektron is one
of a select group of software vendors
chosen by Microsoft to extend the functionality
of Content Management Server.
Ektron
eWebEditPro, the market-leading, browser-based,
multilingual XHTML content editor, offers
comprehensive "word-processor-like"
capabilities to non-technical users
and significant customization options
for Web developers. eWebEditPro+XML
extends the functionality of eWebEditPro
by adding a WYSIWYG XML authoring environment.
"Ektron
is a proven vendor in the HTML and XML
authoring space, and the company continues
to push the envelope with its Windows-based
product line," said Eric Swift, group
product manager for .NET Enterprise
Servers at Microsoft Corp. "Ektron’s
technology, with its strong support
of XML, complements Content Management
Server 2002 very well. Customers who
require advanced, browser-based HTML
and XML authoring will find Ektron’s
offerings a good match with Content
Management Server for their enterprise
content management solutions."
Ektron’s
technology uniquely complements features
in Microsoft Content Management Server
2002, especially in the area of XML.
For example, Microsoft adds a new XML
data store, making content more readily
accessible for other purposes, such
as repositioning to various devices
and enhanced searching.
"Getting
XML into the data store is more efficient
if content contributors create XML themselves,"
said Ektron CEO Bill Rogers. "We’re
pleased to share a similar vision with
Microsoft for the future of content
management and XML. Our combined technologies
present new opportunities for more effective
management and reuse of content."
Rogers
explains that with WYSIWYG capabilities,
end users are unaware that HTML or XML
code is being created. "They simply
use Ektron’s word-processor-like toolbar
to create and format text, spell-check,
insert tables, upload images, add links,
and more," he says. "The technology
itself does the rest behind the scenes.
Web developers can configure the solution,
for example, to enforce styles, clean
or validate code, dynamically build
a schema-driven user interface, or transform
content with XSLT. There is also a JavaScript
API available to easily add custom buttons
and functions."
Additional
Ektron features for Microsoft include
extensive compatibility with Microsoft
Word, advanced style sheet (CSS) control
with style classes, advanced table and
image functionality, and support for
content authoring and spell checking
in any Windows-supported language. Currently,
Ektron eWebEditPro dialogs are available
in 15 languages.
