papiNet Integrates 2 NEW Market Segments
Label Stock and Timber/Lumber
7 Market Segments Now integrated into papiNet

papiNet, the global electronic standards initiative for paper and forest products industry, announces the release of Version 2.20 of this widely accepted XML standard. Version 2.20 of papiNet provides complete supply-chain visibility for paper and forest products from Scale Ticket to Planning. The papiNet product definition enables companies to uniformly communicate the attributes that differentiate their products in a uniform and standard manner.

Brussels, Belgium and Alexandria, Virginia (January 15, 2004) - The members and sponsoring organizations of papiNet - the global electronic standards initiative of the paper and forest products industry - announce the release of 3 additional business documents to the papiNet XML standard. The messages being added are Book Specification, Inventory Disposition Instructions, and Scale Ticket enabling 2 new market segments to become integrated into papiNet - label stock and timber/lumber. A total of 7 market segments are now represented within the papiNet standard - book manufacturing, fine paper, label stock, packaging/containerboard, publication papers, pulp, and timber/lumber.

The papiNet standard has also been enhanced to include product definition to enable companies to communicate the product characteristics that they need or are offering.

Users of version 2.00 and 2.10 messages can communicate with trading partners who want to embrace these new messages without any additional work.

Robert Pyzdrowski, President of Operations & Strategic Sourcing for RR Donnelley and papiNet Chairman, says, "The papiNet messages play a key role by enabling supply chain collaboration and efficiency. The eight market segments that utilize the papiNet standard can do so on a global basis thus expanding the opportunity for companies to source effectively worldwide."

The papiNet standard facilitates electronic commerce between the paper and forest products industry and its customers by providing XML messages that standardize the transmission of business information between trading partners. papiNet continues to promote the implementation of the standard beyond the 100 companies currently using papiNet.

Complete documentation, along with the schemas, for the published messages is available on the papiNet web site. Implementation guide and data coordination tools are also available. Visit www.papinet.org for further information.
