IDEAlliance Publishes Recipe for Managing Recipe Content

PRISM Recipe Specification in Public Draft and Comment Phase – Closes August 31

Centralizing recipe content will maximize publisher's revenue and lower cost of production

<Thursday, July 28> To assist publishers in unifying recipe content sources and provide for centralized management of recipes, IDEAlliance has announced the publication of a draft specification addressing three use cases for recipe XML and metadata tag sets.

The PRISM Recipe Specification, developed by the IDEAlliance PRISM Working Group, under the direction of Dianne Kennedy, Vice President Emerging Technologies for IDEAlliance, and Patty Bellus, Associate Director, Editorial Operations and Technology, for Meredith Corporation, supports publisher's need to unify recipe content sources and provide for centralized management of recipes.

In announcing this important development for today's publishing community, Dianne Kennedy remarked, "Magazines, cookbooks and websites containing recipes are viewed by most publishers as a primary source of revenue. To date, most recipe-related content remains in silos, and reuse and repurposing remains difficult. While a publisher may use a recipe database to drive its cooking websites, this data is not often integrated with recipe content from cookbooks or magazines. The PRISM Recipe specification will serve as an important tool for publishers seeking to centralize its recipe content, maximizing their revenue potential and lowering their costs of production."
