OKS 2.0: New Utensils for Topic Map Chefs

Abstract

Version 2.0 of the Ontopia Knowledge Suite (OKS), which will be shown at XML 2003 in Philadelphia for the first time, is a major new release of Ontopia's topic map software.

First released in May 2001, the OKS has established itself as the world's foremost toolkit for building topic map applications. Version 2.0 includes a number of important new features which will be demonstrated during the presentation:

* A Complete Topic Map Query Language (TMQL) Implementation

As of version 2.0, Ontopia's query language "tolog" can now be used to query every part of a topic map in conformance with the latest draft of the Topic Maps Data Model, thus allowing implementors to build even more scalable applications with even greater ease.

* Cross-technology Semantic Web Integration

The core topic map engine of the OKS now supports import and export of RDF, thus making it even easier to harness RDF data within a topic map application. Ontopia has long regarded RDF and Topic Maps as complementary technologies. Now, with version 2.0 of the OKS, users no longer have to choose between the two: They can have the best of both worlds.

* Second Generation Tools for Building Topic Map Editors

The Ontopia Web Editor Framework has been extensively revamped based on user feedback from real world applications and is now an even more useful tool for building user-friendly topic map editing environments.

Altogether, version 2.0 of the OKS represents a major step forward for users wishing to apply the power of topic maps to solve their information and knowledge management problems.
