Model Based Design and XML RPC: Building Very Large Systems Inside a Firewall

Abstract

This session will discuss the use of optimized SOAP in a service oriented

architecture to provide scalable, maintainable and high performance

systems behind the firewall. The design of a super computer cluster for

text analytics that uses these principles will be described.

Biography

A true technologist, Dan has deep experience and understanding of the industry. At Rational from 1982-1989, and again from 1998-2003, he worked in the company's microprogramming, life-cycle tools, and intellectual property groups; started a business unit that developed ClearQuest, a defect tracking and activity management system; and helped launch Catapulse, a startup with VC and Rational funding that developed hosted software development tools. Between roles at Rational, he was VP of product development and product management at Logic Works Inc., and he has also worked at other notable IT companies, including Sybase and Tandem Computers.In his new role as the Director of the Almaden Computer Science Department at the Almaden Research Center, Dan is responsible for the strategy and operations of Almaden's Computer Science Department, including work in data management, USER technologies, theory and network data.Dan holds a BSEE in electrical engineering and computer science from Princeton University.
