XML and WebServices in Microsoft's SQL Server

Abstract

Microsoft's upcoming version of its database system product SQL Server "Yukon" will provide built-in, native support for XML management, ranging from supporting the ISO-standard XML datatype over W3C XML Schema support, XQuery and a data modification language to native support for standards-based Web Services.

This presentation will be one of the first public presentations of the XML support in SQL Server "Yukon".

At this session you will learn about the technical design, standards supports and customers scenarios targetted by the XML support in SQL Server. We will start with a discussion of the XML and database scenarios, and describe the architecture how SQL Server integrates XML processing into its database engine. The presentation will contain examples on how to load, query, change and retrieve XML documents, and constrain them with XML Schemata. A life demo that shows the integration of the XML and webservices functionalities of Office with the XML functionality of SQL Server will conclude the presentation.
