Abstract
XML has leapt to center stage in our systems, and enterprises are racing to use it. Is its paradigm so different that the laws of good data management don't apply to it? Or if they do, how do we practically architect and manage the data structures and semantics of XMLized data, within projects and across the enterprise? This presentation reviews the approach and experience of a major federal agency.
This presentation will examine
* The business drivers for XML enterprise data management
* A pro-active, collaborative approach for introducing enterprise data management to the wild frontier of XML development
* Enterprise XML standards and guidelines - more than just technology components
* XML Registries and the Meta Data Repository - how does it all fit together and how do we get started?
* XML data and applications architecture - to XMLize or not to XMLize, that is the question
