The Universal Business Language (UBL)

Abstract

UBL is an open effort to increase interoperability in electronic commerce by standardizing generic business messages. Its deliverables include an XML library of standard data components; a set of basic business schemas (purchase order, invoice, shipping notice, etc.); and a mechanism for the extension of the basic schemas to operate in specific business contexts. UBL builds on the ebXML initiative to establish a common framework for electronic commerce and uses the OASIS technical committee process to provide a publicly accountable, open, royalty-free forum for the development of the standard schemas. This presentation will explain UBL and describe its current status.
