In November 2002, the W3C published the first public draft of the newest revision to the SVG recommendation: SVG 1.2. A year and a half later, SVG 1.2 is entering the final stages towards becoming a W3C-sentenced recommendation. This talk will pick on a few choice features of SVG 1.2 to showcase the most bleeing-edge advances in creating a device-independent XML client.

The first demo will highlight the integration of SVG with a new W3C candidate standards, the XML Binding Language (XBL), and XForms allowing for the creation of self-contained and easily deployable XML components leveraging the entire capabilities of the SVG graphics and multimedia platform. The multimedia nature of this platform will be the focus of the second demo showing the integration of SVG with audio and video, using another W3C specification, the Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL), as a foundation.

This demo-heavy talk should provide a good break from plain topics with colorful sights and sounds for everyone to enjoy.
