Involved in Knowledge Engineering since the late '90s, Bernard Vatant has been working since 2000 as Senior Consultant for Mondeca, designing knowledge models, topic maps and ontologies. He has been participating in various standard bodies, as member of XTM Authoring Group in 2000-2001, founding member and chair of OASIS Published Subjects Technical Committee from 2001 to 2003, and member of W3C WebOnt group since 2003.

Since his former life as a maths teacher, from 1975 to 1997, his research track has steadily been towards efficient and usable knowledge representation, singularly in science popularization and education. This track led him to currently focus on semantic interoperability of knowledge organization systems, like topic maps, thesaurus and ontologies.
