Even Thorbergsen was born in 1951 in Harstad, Norway. He was educated at the Norwegian University for Science and Technology in Trondheim, receiving a Master's Degree in Computer Engineering and Numerical Mathematics in 1976 and a Ph. D. in Refrigeration Engineering in 1980.

He continued the next close to 20 years mainly modelling thermal energy systems as a research scientist. The last three years he operated his own company full time, developing and selling energy-related software to a global market. He was part-time manager of a computer installation cooperation project for 10 years.

After this 20-year period the focus shifted to design of web applications (4 years). He is now adviser at The Norwegian Register Centre in Brønnøysund.

Current work scope is development of systems for data modelling and forms design used for handling data required by reporting obligations.
