Complicated structured information, such as legal and regulatory information, usually result in complicated data models and
applications. The advent of powerful schema languages has exacerbated the maintenance challenge for DTD/schema developers
and application developers. This session will look at the findings made during design and development of the data models for
the Minnesota Senate Rivor's office XML publishing system development project.Techniques for simplifying the data models will
be discussed including:
-
DTD Modularization and a Data Architecture Approach
-
Structured Editor Configuration and Extensions
-
Document Assembly Techniques
-
Change Control Approaches
-
Hybrid DTD and Schema Environments
The approaches discussed enable preservation of existing applications based on DTDs while enabling the use of powerful schema
modeling.
This presentation will discuss the experiences of modeling complex legal information as part of a project automate the Minnestoa
State Senate Revisor's Office, the official publisher of Senate records and documents. It will also explore ideas on how
to blend DTDs, Schemas of different types, and even Namespaces that go beyond the scope of the project. This session is designed
for DTD developers of all experience levels, and technical leads involved in managing development of models and applications
in complex environments.
