Complicated structured information, such as legal and regulatory information, usually result in complicated data models and applications. The advent of powerful schema languages has exacerbated the maintenance challenge for DTD/schema developers and application developers. This session will look at the findings made during design and development of the data models for the Minnesota Senate Rivor's office XML publishing system development project.Techniques for simplifying the data models will be discussed including:
The approaches discussed enable preservation of existing applications based on DTDs while enabling the use of powerful schema modeling.
This presentation will discuss the experiences of modeling complex legal information as part of a project automate the Minnestoa State Senate Revisor's Office, the official publisher of Senate records and documents. It will also explore ideas on how to blend DTDs, Schemas of different types, and even Namespaces that go beyond the scope of the project. This session is designed for DTD developers of all experience levels, and technical leads involved in managing development of models and applications in complex environments.

Biography

President / Senior Consultant

Dale has 20 years experience designing and implementing SGML & XML based systems including content management, Web and print delivery, and system development. Currently, Dale is President and Senior Trainer / Consultant at aXtive Minds, leading organizations in the adoption of XML to publishing and business process improvement. Previously Dale was an industry consultant to OASIS, as well as VP Product Technology at RIA, the Tax Publishing division of the Thomson Corporation. Dale teaches, speaks, and consults widely on XML and Web development.
