The Topic Maps community has an interchange format (XTM) which allows the recording and exchange of information based on the Topic Maps paradigm. There is also software available for processing topic maps (open source and commercial). But currently usage of Topic Maps is limited by standalone implementations. There is no active sharing of information using this technology between different users and organizations. This presentation explores opportunities in combining ideas from Service Oriented Architecture, Grid computing and Topic Maps for building a comprehensive distributed infrastructure which allows one to record, contribute, re-use, find, present and visualize various pieces of information.
