This presentation starts with where we are with web services and describes where IBM thinks we are going with them The presentation sets forth three generations of web services, including the current generation based on standards such as SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI, as well as a second generation consisting of enabling web services, and a third generation consisting of business processes. Second-generation enabling web services are web services that facilitate the development of business-oriented web services by providing support functions such as security, transaction support, workflow support, etc. The presentation will describe current and anticipated development in these areas.
Following the availability of enabling web services will be standards and offerings allowing business-oriented web services and enabling web services to be combined together into flexible business processes that can be easily changed by business analysts to reflect new conditions and challenges.
For each generation of web services, this presentation will describe the relevant standards, programming stack, and software components.
