Bruce Sharpe, Executive VP, XML Content Solutions of Corel Corporation, holds a Ph.D. in the area of mathematical physics (quantum field theory). He is grateful that the advent of the IBM PC in the early 1980's provided an opportunity to leave this absurdly difficult field and take refuge in software development. He immediately embarked on a series of leadership roles in software development that has been going on for the last 18 years. His areas of interest have included text processing, digital image analysis, computer music applications, Internet programming and document authoring. With the acquisition by Corel of SoftQuad Software, where Dr. Sharpe was Chief Technology Officer, he continues to lead the teams developing XMetaL and related XML products.
