Accessing Web Services on the Pocket PC - A Case Study

Abstract

New technologies such as Bluetooth and GPRS finally make it possible to take Web Services to mobile devices.

Using the combination of a Compaq iPAQ computer, a Bluetooth enabled phone and GPRS technology it is possible to utilize a Web Service from the Pocket PC. New converged devices will make this process even easier.

This case study explains the steps to develop a useful applicaton. The audience will learn more about the underlying technologies such as GPRS and Bluetooth as well as the availablility of tools on the Pocket PC platform.

Biography

Sven Schreiber is the Chief Executive of Platon Media Solutions GmbH and the creator and executive manager of AddressDoctor, a powerful software system able to identify, search, validate and correct mailing addresses in more than 190 countries throughout the world. Since pioneering this technology in 1994, Sven has taken AddressDoctor from a small-scale address search engine to the most accurate system of its kind with direct and OEM customers worldwide, and strong international alliances with such renowned organizations as Deutsche Post Global Mail.Prior to founding Platon, Sven managed the IT infrastructure for a global trading software firm, leading software acquisition programs, systems restructuring and software development. Earlier, Sven held positions in sales with NCR in Germany and in strategic projects with a digital imaging company in the United States. He holds a Masters Degree in business administration and computer science from the Universität Mannheim, and won a U.S. Congressional scholarship to study extensively in the United States. Sven has spoken and presented new technologies at numerous conferences and trade shows in Europe and the United States. Recently, he spoke at an Electronic Code Management Association (ECCMA) conference in Santa Clara. He has also given influential speeches for Deutsche Post Global Mail teams. In addition, Sven has spoken at numerous "Internet Breakfasts" and Industrie und Handelskammer (IHK) events. Sven was a guest speaker at the recent Microsoft XML in Action 2002 conference in Berlin. He will also speak at the BASTA conference in Munich.
