Bringing XML to PKI

Abstract

The XML and PKI worlds are now coming together, resulting in many interesting new initiatives for the securing of XML communications. This talk looks at all the relevant initiatives in securing XML and covers such areas as:

· The OASIS Security Services initiative to create a common XML authentication framework for the web. How this relates to other XML security initiatives.

· XML Key Management Specification (XKMS) - examination of the architecture and protocols that apply XML to digital certificate integration.

· XML-DSIG - the XML Digital Signature specification. What it is, how it works, with practical examples of use.

Biography

Chief Technical Officer at Vordel, Mark has overseen the development of Vordel's technical strategy and product development in the areas of XML and public key cryptography. Mark designed and implemented EDI solutions for Ireland's largest EDI Value-Added Network (VAN), Eirtrade Services Ltd, before merging his own company with Vordel, developing product for blue-chip clients including Sony Europe, Intel, Royal & SunAlliance, AXA, the Irish Government and Critical Path. Mark holds a double-honors degree in Mathematics and Psychology from Trinity College Dublin and also studied neural network modelling at Oxford University. Mark is a member of the OASIS Security Services Technical Committee and an advisor to the XML.org industry newsletter.
