Concurrent Business Case Study Workshops
How can the industry work theory into practice? Concepts into the bottomline? Print Distribution 2006 inaugurates a NEW FEATURE of the conference – Scenario Application Workshops. Here are case studies...models of real-world applications to test and apply to your business. We’ve put together experts to develop a case study around the hottest topics to:
- Expand your opportunities
- Learn about the tradeoffs
- Develop your niche approach because one size does not fit all Participate! Dig in! Ask questions!
#1 Newsweekly Co-Mailing Case Study
Conventional wisdom is that large-circulation newsweeklies can't pool-ship, comail or co-bind. Since February, U.S. News has co-bound weekly with Information Week (CMP Media LLC publication). The key to the program is to focus on creating value, Michael Armstrong, SVP Operations for U.S. News, explains. Hear these publishers and their printer discuss how co-binding and co-mailing created value for mailed main run and supplemental copies and why they see printer mail-stream consolidation as an essential step to future mailing efficiency.

| Steve Jost, Manager of Co-Mail Solutions, Quad/Graphics, Inc. |
Marie Myers, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing, CMP Media LLC |
#2 2006 Rate Case - Modeling Preparation Alternatives
The key question has always been “How can I best prepare the mail to meet my business objectives and minimize my costs?” However, in a dramatically changing postal landscape, with USPS Network Redesign and key new technologies such as APPS and FSS, the answer is likely to be quite different from the past. The restructuring of rates in the upcoming case will drive us to reconsider traditional worksharing and this shift will be accelerated as the USPS deploys FSS. In this session, we’ll discuss some ways for us to evaluate mail preparation alternatives and gauge their impact on costs. We’ll also look at some specific modeling techniques that can help answer the hard questions that we are all facing.

- Co-Mail...the NEW Subclass?

#4 Where Did My Barcode Discounts Go?
Don't get caught asking this question. New address matching requirements for CASS certified software and the implementation of the Flats Sequencing System (FSS) that automates the processing of flats could reduce those discounts. Become aware of future potential loss of barcode discounts due to tighter address matching requirements...DPV being one. Hear about a Newsweek Case Study on its impact and implications. Learn what's coming and what to do to maintain those precious bar code discounts.
