Abstract:

XML-driven enterprise-class content management systems are the next tools of the publishing evolution and will have a profound impact on the nature of publishers' products and workflows. This is due to the way XML revolutionizes the assembly and delivery of information by decoupling content from its containing form. XML is platform-agnostic; it communicates with any file or system. XML content is mobile and wants to aggregate, flow, and recombine. This leads to agile information systems and assets. XML enables flexible, just-in-time content delivery that will change the cost structure of the publishing industry just as profoundly as it will change its products and services, by fundamentally enabling nimble reactions to pricing and timing opportunities for cross-media products.
