Welcome to the XMP Acid Test,
the portal for testing XMP compliance

Launch the test!

This is the home of the IDEAlliance XMP interoperability Compliance site - the XMP Acid Test.

The XMP Acid Test has been developed as a joint effort between IDEAlliance and its technology partners to establish baseline interoperability for XMP-based products, as well as any product used to process a digital media asset. This free, immediate, and decisive online test follows the model established by Acid1, Acid2 and Acid3 for web browsers.

WHY TEST XMP COMPLIANCE?

  • XMP, Adobe's Extensible Metadata Platform Specification, has been balloted and approved for publication as ISO International Standard 16684-1.
  • Testing XMP compliance is critically important for maintaining the integrity of XMP in media assets.
  • The XMP Acid Test verifies that tools reading and writing XMP metadata in media assets follow the standard correctly. Without this check, we can never guarantee open, fully interoperable digital media supply chains.

WHAT TECHNOLOGIES USE XMP?

Examples of products where XMP integrity is critical range from photo and video editing tools, tools for creating or processing PDF output, technologies for proofing and preflighting, file transfer portals, and even digital asset management systems.

All tests available on this website are free to anyone who develops or uses XMP products, to test the compliance of their tools to the XMP Specification. As with the acid tests for web browsers, we expect several versions of XMP acid tests will be available over time.  The first of these tests is tagged XMPAcid1.  Maintenance and enhancement of the XMP Acid Tests over time will be administered by the XMPinterop Working Group of IDEAlliance.
