PRISM Specifications
The first PRISM Specification (1.0) was published in 2001. Initially the scope of PRISM was metadata for print-based periodicals. Several revisions and were published. PRISM 2.0 was published in 2008. This was the first major revision to PRISM and the scope of PRISM was expanded to include both print and online periodical content. In addition PRISM 2.0 added a metadata set to describe Usage Rights. And with the new additions to the specification, it was modularized.
PRISM 3.0 is the next major revision of PRISM and was released late in 2012. PRISM 3.0 adds numerous new metadata sets and expands the scope of PRISM beyond periodicals to include books, blogs, websites, bookazines and supplements. Global publishing models influenced PRISM 3.0. Advertising metadata is now included. PRISM 3.0 serves as the basis for the PRISM Source Vocabulary dynamic publishing framework.
