Alternative Screening Technologies
Moderator:
Ken Petersen, PPC
Panelists:
Gordon Pritchard, Creo; Steve Musselman, Agfa; Linda Enright, Vision Graphics
The traditional halftone process employed in printing dates back to the 1881 when Frederick Ives patented the half tone screen. Surely there's a better way? CTP has enabled the second coming of stochastic, and now there are newer interesting alternatives that show great promise. Are there any drawbacks to these processes that can produce a near perfect printed piece? Why isn't everyone doing it? Decide if it will work in your business today, or are you right to wait prudently before rushing into this dramatic change. In this session you will hear about several alternative screening tech-nologies including hybrid screening (not merely stochastic, not just conventional). First there was AM, then there was FM and now there is XM! These screening technologies purport to not only eliminate moiré but also enhance the printed product in several ways. What are these benefits? How are they achieved? What are the drawbacks? A hard look at what experience is telling us about the next generation of printing methodologies.
