Panel #1 - Transformation of Print Media: Looking Outside the Box
Innovative uses of media demand a compelling vision of the possibilities for communicating any message. Just as a second beer never tastes as good, a second dollar in the same medium never buys as much response. That's why the idea of mixing media has always been attractive. It's in the physics of a flattening sales response curve. Marketing-mix models will often show a high return-on-investment for a low-budget medium, simply because spending fewer dollars puts it at a better point on the response curve. The general rule is spending more money and the response-per-dollar goes down. Spend less money and it goes up. But, while sales-per-dollar go up, total sales do not, so a brand can't scrooge its way to growth. We need to create powerful interactions that consumers choose to experience. Here's a panel of experts that dissect the key issues and what are the path forwards for Print Media. How can we streamline the integration of digital images into our workflows? How can DAM systems facilitate the integration of media types? What new tools also enable us to organize, browse, locate, view and integrate assets?

How do corporations and agencies execute global marketing programs quickly and efficiently? There is an aggressive move towards developing new efficiencies and global print quality standards that will enable print be competitive in the worldwide marketplace. Learn about the business requirements of today's Global Marketers. Learn how the printing industry is working together to develop new global print standards in the Printing Across Borders Initiative. Learn about new printing efficiencies for the CTP environment that are being developed as part of the GRACoL 7 Initiative. How can we take advantage of these standards and create a global print environment? How can creative thinking help us become more efficient and more competitive?

Xerox Corporation
A Great Illustration of Digital Workflow and Full-Color Digital Printing
When several hundred of the world's leading commercial illustrators got together at the ICON4 Illustrators Conference in San Francisco this summer, each received a beautiful commemorative book as they checked-in -- a book that left them wondering: "Wow, how'd they do that?" That's because the 329-page, full-color perfect-bound ICON4 Sketchbook book not only included one of the illustrators' sketches, but also was personalized with their name and one of their fully finished illustrations in the form of a trading stamp on the cover. Come to this special Spectrum sponsor session to hear internationally renowned illustrator, designer and author Craig Frazier (craigfrazier.com; stanleybooks.com) discuss how he accomplished this short-run digital publishing feat, in record time and at an affordable cost, by teaming up with Xerox digital printing workflow expert Mike Riebesehl and Xerox's industry partner Adobe Systems. Craig also will sign posters and books following each of his presentations with Mike.

We - as an industry - must seek greater visibility for the concept of print as a superior communication medium among advertising and marketing decision makers and influencers. The Life with Print campaign would like to improve the knowledge of marketers to not only understand the value of print, but act on it as well.
