Product/Grade
Finder
GCA Standard 142-1999
GCA's EDI Committee and working group
developed the product/grade finder transaction
as part of the objective to cover the
entire range of activity involving paper
control, and to provide a tool for significantly
improving the process of paper management.
It offers a mean for paper customers
to systematically and electronically
capture product data, and use the manufacturers'
product codes for ordering.
In
the Purchase Order and Related Transactions
(GCA Std. 135-1999), the document encourages
customers to use the manufacturers'
product codes to reduce interpretation
errors that can occur at the mill. This
transactions uses the X12 sales/price
catalog. (X12 transaction set number
832) as its basis, but this implementation
contains no pricing data. The working
group also chose not to use the word
'catalog' in the title, as not to give
the impression it provides an online
ordering device.
A
working group chaired by Gerry Galewski
of Perry Judd's Inc. developed Product/Grade
Finder for Paper Used in Publishing
and Printing. This working group is
part of GCA's Electronic Data Interchange
Committee chaired by Bill Orndorff,
also of Perry Judd's Inc. and Brian
Scharlach of McGraw-Hill Companies.
