PROSE
(Production Order Specification/EDI)
GCA Standard 125-1992, Release 1.3,
1997
The industry standard for transmitting
printing and binding orders, with updated
production data and Year 2000 compliant.
PROSE show publishers and direct marketers
how to send their printing and binding
orders electronically using a standard
industry format.
The
PROSE manual shows in detail all data
records used for instructions on the
layout and printing of advertising and
editorial components, pages, signatures,
sections, and supplied parts such as
inserts, blow-in-cards, and supplements.
The manual also provides details on
transmitting instructions for binding
these pieces, especially useful for
catalogs, publications, and direct mail
pieces with many complex regional and
emograhic versions. In addition to the
record and data elements formats, the
manual gives updated illustrative examples
of all records.
The
new PROSE release 1.3 contains new fields
for ink coverage, positioning, and trim
sizing. GCA’s EMARC-EDI Committee, chaired
by Bill Orndorff of Judd’s Inc. and
Karen Rosenberg of Time Inc. developed
PROSE.
