New in 2008 – Training
Another new component this year is training. Instead of offering training on a separate day, we will be integrated training into the main program and adding TWO tracks – Application and Foundation. This track will run the entire length of the conference and will offer hands-on, interactive sessions intended to give attendees the skills they need to implement XML on any level. These sessions offer basic level introductory topics as well as more advanced sessions that outline project architecture and key technologies.
XML Foundations: This track will cover specifications and standards and the tools targeted at working with them. For example, XQuery with hands-on usage of eXist, XForms using Orbeon, DITA and the DITA Open Toolkit, W3C XML Schema best practices, a survey of XML development IDEs, or an introduction to ODF. Our approach is hands-on or to give the attendees something to take back to the office and use as they begin to implement.
Chair: Dr. JoAnn Hackos, President Comtech Services
Co-Chair: Ken Holman, CTO, Crane Softwrights Ltd.
XML Applications: Here we focus on training in broader application development environments.. For example, an overview of the XML-related capabilities in Apache projects, interacting with XML using Visual Studio, or building custom Office 2007 applications. Here’s your opportunity to focus on XML from the application point-of-view and how to utilize within your organization.
Chair: Joe Gollner, VP e-Publishing Solutions
Co-Chair: Mark O’Neill, CTO, Vordel and Author, “Web Services Security”
New in 2008 – Business Perspective
A new component to this year’s conference is a focus on XML from the business and management point-of-view. In addition to learning about the technical nuances of an application, there will be sessions presented on integrating XML into their overall business strategy. These sessions will present a strategic big picture story that includes details on how XML has streamlined business processes, saved time, enhanced productivity, and improved the overall bottom line.
XML-in-Practice will showcase real world applications and solutions that XML has enabled, enhanced and or made possible. In addition, and as is tradition with the IDEAlliance XML Conference, each track will offer topics of sufficient technical depth to explore pressing issues beyond the fundamentals.
For 24 years, IDEAlliance has been a leading producer of events related to XML and accompanying standards. In fact, the first draft of the XML specification was announced at XML 1996. We pride ourselves on events that provide attendees with the opportunity to meet and learn from leading industry experts, preview cutting edge technology, understand the most recent developments in standards and specifications, and see real-world examples of how XML is being used today.
